Aluminum Foam in Chassis Structural Components

The application of aluminum foam filled structures in chassis parts such as automobile frames can improve the role of light weight and safety and comfort of automobiles.
Engine Mounts
Engine mounts are filled with aluminum foam, which can withstand high engine quality while dissipating engine vibration and converting it into thermodynamic energy of the aluminum foam core, and also improve safety by absorbing energy in the event of an automobile collision.

Control Arm
Aluminum-foam sandwich composite control arms. This high-strength sandwich material consists of a foam aluminum core, a multilayer fiber-reinforced composite laminate, and an aluminum alloy shell. As an important component of the suspension system, the lightweighting of the control arms significantly reduces the unsprung mass of the chassis and thus improves the handling of the vehicle.
The sandwich composite material provides better impact and flex resistance than steel or aluminum control arms. The foam aluminum core makes it more suitable for components subjected to bending stresses, and the metal shell provides better impact resistance.

Wheels
Lightweight wheels made of carbon aluminum foam sandwich. The wheel is a lightweight structural wheel with a cover made of an aluminum foam core and a thermoplastic fiber-reinforced plastic. The assembled prototype concept wheel weighs 3.02 kilograms, which is significantly lighter than the reference wheel.
