What are the specifications of Nickel Foam?
Nickel foamis a porous metallic material with a high specific surface area, good electrical conductivity, and corrosion resistance. Its specifications include size, pore diameter, density, and other aspects. There are various specifications of nickel Foam on the market today, commonly used ones include spherical nickel foam with a diameter of 2-4mm and nickel foam plates with a pore size of 20-40ppi.
Common specification parameters
1. Thickness: Nickel foam has a wide range of thicknesses, commonly ranging from 0.1mm to 5mm, of which the commonly used specifications for battery electrodes are 1.6mm, 1.7mm, 2.0mm, and so on.
2. Size: Standard sizes include 100mm x 100mm, 300mm x 80mm, 500mm x 500mm, etc. Some products support customized length and width.
3. Porosity characteristics:
- Porosity is usually 50%-98%, through-hole rate ≥95%, pore size range 0.1mm-10mm (corresponding to 5 120PPI).
- The pore size of ultra-thin nickel foam can be as small as 0.05mm with 80% porosity.
4. PhySical properties:
- Surface density: 346g/m² to 780g/m², bulk density 0.1-0.8g/cm³.
- Tensile strength: longitudinal ≥1.25N/mm², transverse ≥1.00N/mm².
Application Scenario Differences
The specification of nickel foam will be adjusted according to different applications:
- Battery electrode: thickness mostly 1.6mm-2.4mm, surface density 420±20g/m², porosity above 96%.
- Sound-absorbing materials: focus on porosity and pore size distribution, high porosity (e.g. 96-98%) is required for high-frequency sound absorption.
- Filter or catalytic carrier: high porosity (≥98%) and uniform pore size are required.
